| Mares Tropic 3mm Mens 1-Piece Full Wetsuit - Jumpsuit - On Sale Save 55! by Mares Dacor Sporasub Great wetsuit for the money | This was my first wetsuit when I started diving 7 years ago. It now has over 150 dives on it and I still use it. After all this time it has lasted very well. It fits me like a glove and is in great shape from the point of view of durability. The seams have stayed together like new. The zipper is easy to use and works like new. Like all wetsuits, if you scuba dive repeatedly, eventually the neoprene will get compressed by the high pressure at 100+ feet. So mine is not 3mm thick any more! So I needed to add another suit recently for that reason. However this is not a criticism of this suit, they all will do that. This would not apply of course if you are buying this for surface use like surfing. I recommend this highly.
And now some general advice on wetsuit buying follows:
A 3mm wetsuit is the standard for warm water diving (water temp 75-85F). Above this temp you really don't need anything unless you are diving many dives per day (say 3+) when you will start to feel the cold anyway. In the range of 70-75F I would suggest 5mm. Colder than that you will want 7mm and probably a hood and gloves. If you have never bought a wetsuit before, it is essential to get the right size. You might be better going to a store to pick one out the first time. It should feel tight all over your body with no gaps of any kind. Proper fit is essential to keep you warm. Keep trying different sizes until you are satisfied. If you do buy online be very sure to carefully read the size charts, I recommend paying close attention to the chest and waist range in the size chart, as well as weight range, and less attention to the height. If you can match all the dimensions, great. If you can't then choose the closest: but be sure you understand the return policy if you need to change sizes, specifically, will they cover the shipping cost both to and from, for you to return the item. Do not get it wet until you are sure you do not need to return it!
Good luck. Dive Safe and Often. |
