| Wald Mini Lift Off Basket for Multi Speed Bicycles, 11.75" x 8" x 9", # 3114 Black by Great Basket for the money | I bought this basket because the brake cables (I own a Schwinn 7 speed) were in the way of a larger basket I wanted...however, that turned out not to be a problem with this basket, and in fact I'm glad I purchased this one!
First impressions: the basket and mount seem very sturdy (not cheesy or flimsy). Mounted on my handlebars without too much trouble, and has a small brace (on back of the basket) for extra stability. I don't doubt you could carry groceries in these and it seems, from the construction, that it will last a long time -- kudos to Wald for that, since I do love value for the money!
The basket locks in place by hooking the basket into two hooks (located on mount) and rotating the top handle to lock it in place, although I will probably use zipties to secure the basket to the bike permanently since I won't be taking it off...just using it to carry stuff. This one comes in black (which I didn't think about) but it blends in on the front of my bike, so that's ok by me.
Overall, a very good basket for the money. I actually attached it to a rear rack with bungee cords *it looks so sweet* I don't shop for groceries with my bike, so if you have bigger carrying needs, I would recommend buying both this one (for the front), and the one that's just the same but larger, and attach it in the back. It beats all other rear baskets available because of it weightlessness and discreet appearance. The fact that you can remove it and use it in the grocery store is BIIIG a plus.
